From Jamaican sound‑system energy to soul, funk, reggae, hip hop, and Chicago’s deep house roots, his ear was shaped early — and intentionally.Growing up on Chicago’s South Side, the soundtrack was rich and varied:

 

Motown grooves, classic soul, reggae basslines, house music, and the raw creativity of early hip hop all lived side by side. That musical openness shaped a DJ who could move comfortably across genres — and more importantly, read the room and give it what it needs.

 

From the Cypher to the Crowd Before the big stages and polished events, B‑Syde was the one building beats in high‑school ciphers, cutting records, and blending sounds for emcees hungry to be heard. As a producer, DJ, and creative collaborator, he helped form early rap collectives, distributed mixtapes, and developed a signature style rooted in clean transitions, dynamic scratches, and seamless blends.That foundation — creating energy from scratch — still informs how he approaches every event today.

 

At Southern Illinois University Carbondale, B‑Syde deepened his craft, studying music, video production, and broadcasting while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Radio‑Television Communications. His technical fluency expanded alongside real‑world performance, landing consistent paid gigs for student organizations, campus events, and creative projects.Back in Chicago, he continued investing — not just in gear, but in growth — mastering digital DJ systems, studio production, sound reinforcement, and lighting design.​
